12/17 Weekly Highlight: Trying a calligraphy class, restaurants in Columbia, SC, improving hairstyle

This week was so much fun leading up to Christmas. I spent some time focusing on self-care (i.e my hair) and working on my hobbies (calligraphy, blogging, and exploring the city). Now, I have cool things to do when I am bored.

1. How to Maintain a Braid Out

I found this Youtube video with tips on how to maintain a braid out. Normally my braid out looks good for a day or two, but it does not last much longer than that so I needed a solution. Based on the video, it seems like braidouts require some daily maintenance of braiding the front of my hair. It’s not a one and done.

Also, some of the additional tips I learned:

  • Use the banding method to keep the back of your hair stretched
  • When braiding hair, braid hair towards the front of your head to give a bang vibe
  • Use mousse for definition

2. New Blog Post: The Benefits of Journaling

Journaling is my favorite pastime. I journal almost every day and it has helped me to release stress and to stop overthinking. I highly recommend checking out this post to learn more about its benefits and if it would be helpful for you.

3. Cocobowlz in Columbia, SC

Location: 2015 Devine St, Columbia, SC 29205

I came across Cocobowlz while exploring Five Points and it’s this cute smoothie bar with a variety of healthy food options.

I tried the “Fruitful” acai bowl and it had all the best fruits such as pineapples, kiwis, blueberries, and strawberries. I highly recommend you try it. Then, I also got to try goji berry seeds for the first time. Goji berries are a superfood filled with delicious antioxidants that support eye health, immunity, and more. I am going to try putting them in my smoothies at home.

4. Books to Read: The Flower Series by Asia Monique

One of my favorite subscriptions is Amazon Kindle Unlimited because I enjoy reading books. This subscription allows me to read a wide variety of books and as many of them as I can. I recently came across the author Asia Monique’s series of romance books and they are captivating.

5. Christian-based stationary shop: Jenessa Wait

I came across Jenessa Wait, a family-owned business, that sells home decor, journals, and more while looking for pretty journals to purchase and I was so impressed by theirs. On the front of their journals are encouraging scriptures that remind us God is with us through everything. I journal almost every day and it would be nice to have one of their journals to pick up and start my day.

6. Sip & Script Class in Columbia, SC

I came across this calligraphy company called Sip and Script and they have classes all over the US. I took my lesson in Columbia, SC and it was a great way to get out of the house and learn a new skill. They pride themselves on providing a lighthearted environment to practice calligraphy for all skill levels. This is a class that you can go to by yourself or with friends. I went alone and it wasn’t awkward at all. I actually met a new person there that I spoke with throughout the full 1 hour and a half lesson.

The highlight of this week was the calligraphy class. It’s such a fun hobby and now I have the supplies to practice calligraphy in the future. I am going to keep track of things that I am doing during the week with hopes it gives you different ideas of things to explore.
