Today is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day and I could not let the day pass without paying homage in some form. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. fought to ensure that my family, friends, and I would have equal access to all the membership rights granted to U.S. citizens. Who knows where I would be without individuals like him? His guidance and inspiration not only helped the black community but he reminded our nation of the power of love, friendship, service and how to be courageous. His impact still resounds today.
You see Martin Luther King Jr. was just a man. Just as ordinary as one of us. However, he stands out. He stands out because he decided to step up. He decided to fill a void that not many other people could fill. It’s likely that this did not come without its hardships but he did it despite the personal sacrifices. I was trying to figure out what I wanted to share with you in honor of MLK Jr. day and I thought what better way to honor him than to share a few of his quotes.
All That You Need Is Within You

One of the most important quotes that I discovered by MLK is “No one really knows why they are alive until they know what they’d die for. I think this is one of the most important questions that we could ever ask ourselves during our life. What will your answer be?
Stand up, Even When Its Not Popular
Deciding to stand up for what you believe in or go after what you want can be challenging. Despite knowing this, you should do it anyway. MLK Jr. did not have to be a pillar for the black community but he took on that responsibility. Through his words he inspired and motivated the nation to no longer be silent when there are injustices. His words still live on today and here are a few to remind you to keep climbing.

The one that really resonates with me is the second one “Faith is taking the first step when you can\'t see the whole staircase”. I typically feel that I need to have everything together before I can go after certain opportunities. However I am learning, sometimes I have to just put myself out there because if I don’t then I may never start. Life is a journey and it’s okay to learn as I go.
