I visited MYX Blend Bar in West Village with my friend Ruya (@ruyaduwang). My friend, Ruya, was gifted this opportunity and she invited me to tag along with her. I was excited to come with her.

MYX Blend Bar is a beauty bar where you can create fully-customizable lip glosses and lipstick from scratch.

What to Expect

When you enter MYX Blend Bar, you are greeted with a circular bar area where guests sit to create their goodies. It puts you in the mindset of a bar giving you space to socialize with your friends and allowing the myxologist to easily help you create your cocktail (lipstick).

When you first sit down, the myxologist will ask if you want your choice of champagne or mimosa. You know I am a mimosa girl so that is what I went with.

Lip Gloss vs. Lipstick?

Then, you have the option to choose whether you want to make lipstick or lip gloss. My friend and I decided to go with lip gloss, and there are three types of lip gloss options. Ruya chose a lip gloss that would dry down into a lip stain with more of a lip balm texture. I chose to go with the lip glasé which is more of your traditional high shine lip gloss. The other lip gloss option is also high shine but thicker and tackier so it’s not as smooth to rub your lips together. However, I imagine the gloss will last longer.

Before testing out the product, the MYXologist will make sure to get your lips in tip-top shape. You will exfoliate your lips with a flavored sugar scrub that you choose. The sugar scrubs smell delicious. I enjoyed the Grapefruit scent but they have a citrus one, eucalyptus, mint, etc. Once you have exfoliated your lips, they will provide you with a lip gloss or lip treatment that will have your lips glossing and add moisture.

Choosing a color

Then for the fun part: making the product.

What I really like about MYX Bar is that they encourage you to experiment with different colors and try as many things as you want until you find the perfect shade. This is amazing for indecisive people. I got assistance with my color from my MYXologist. I wanted to try something new outside of red that would look good on my skin complexion. Let me tell ya’ll, my myxologist was amazing she helped me create a rich deep pink color that looked amazing on me.

After the color is finalized you get to add some finishing touches. You get the option to add glitter. Then you get to add two optional additions such as moisture, anti-aging, SPF, and plumping. I added moisture because my lips get really dry and plumping because I need it.

Overall Review

I highly recommend visiting MYX Blend Bar because it is a one-of-a-kind experience. It’s perfect for a bachelorette party or birthday because they accommodate large group sizes. It’s also just a nice place for a regular girl’s day to catch up on each other lives. They really allow you to create a professional-grade lipstick or lipgloss from start to finish. You also name your lipstick/lipgloss making it official official. I would definitely do this again for a special occasion.
