I came across the Too Good to App on social media and wanted to check it out. The Too Good to Go app is an app where you can buy leftover or surplus food from your favorite restaurants and bakeries for a fraction of the cost. The purpose of this app is to help prevent food waste. It took me a month to actually use the app because I was a little hesitant about it.
However, I bit the bullet and decided to check out a few restaurants and bakeries in the same day since my calendar was open. I am glad I did because it allowed me to see what different restaurants had to offer instead of my view of the app hinging on my experience at one place. The items you get in a surprise bag are random so you don’t know what you are going to get until you pick it up. It’s truly like going on an adventure. You get to try new restaurants and new foods.
1. Shipley Donut
Address: 1302-A State Hwy 121, Lewisville, TX 75067
The first restaurant I tried was a donut shop because I really enjoy donuts so I really wanted to check out this place as I have heard great reviews about Shipley Donuts. I placed my order the night before and the app provided a time frame for me to pick up my order the next day. When I arrived to get my order, the staff was super nice and the process to check out was easy.
In my surprise bag, I got 18 donuts which was a great value for $6 (normally a $16 value). The donuts were delicious the first 2 days but since it was just me it took about a week to eat them all so they got a little stale. Hopefully, you have someone to help you with your donuts so you don’t have to scarf them down or waste them. I ended up eating all my donuts and warmed them up to make them easier to eat.
2. Foxtrot University Park
Address: 6565 Hillcrest Ave, Dallas, TX 75205
I visited Foxtrot a few years okay when it first opened in Dallas and it was such a cute place to get coffee and work from. I have not visited since then so I wanted to see what they had to offer.
In my ready-to-eat surprise bag, they included all full-size items which I was enthused about. They included a falafel bowl, crostini, feta dip, and pimento dip. The item’s best-by date was the same date I picked them up which wasn’t a problem because I hoped to eat all the items over the next few days. This was my first time eating a falafel bowl and I was really impressed by the flavor of the falafel and will order falafel in the future. The only downside was the falafel was a little dry. I ate the crostini with the feta dip and the feta dip took a little getting used to. I wish I had something else to go with it. I tried the pimento dip but it wasn’t my vibe.
Overall, this surprise bag was meh. The main thing I liked was the Falafel bowl.
3. Tre Stelle Coffe Co.
Address: 17390 Preston Rd Suite 210, Dallas, TX 75252
4. Eataly
Address: 8687 N Central Expy #2172, Dallas, TX 75225
This is a highly coveted surprise bag and I got the small size on the first go. There are three different sizes small, medium, and XL and they were gone within seconds but I got one.
In my bag, I got two different pastas, a sandwich, and two types of cheese. I used the pasta and added the ground beef and pasta sauce. The sandwich was really good but I haven’t eaten the cheese yet because I am not sure what to pair it with. I would highly recommend this surprise bag because the items in the bag were great and one box of pasta paid for the bag on its own.
I would highly recommend you check out the Too Good to Go app. The app is growing its presence in the US so I would recommend you to download the app to see if its in your area.
