Use Eventbrite to Make Friends in DFW

Trying to figure out how to make new friends and get out of the house?

Well, I am here to help. I moved to Dallas five years ago and it was so challenging to find ways to get out of the house and stay in the know. However, one of the best-kept secrets is Eventbrite.

Eventbrite is an event platform that organizations and companies use to promote their events making it a great platform for new and current residents to find different activities to stay busy and meet new people. You can find events based on location, pricing, and interest. There are events being held all over DFW from conferences all the way to cooking classes.

I have found so many free events through Eventbrite such as fitness class events hosted by Fabletics Plano and Crisp & Green where I have met new people and made friends. Typically, I can find a free exercise class at least once a week. Now I am starting to branch out to see what other events are being hosted in the area. Based on my research, there is so much. And the best part is the more you use Eventbrite, the more the algorithm will start to know what type of events you like so you don’t have so much time searching for new things.

How to find the events:

In order to find events, I recommend that you use the filter option to narrow down what would be most interesting. For example, if you’re interested in fitness that’s what you would type in the search bar. If you’re interested in free activities, select that in the filter option.

You can search for things like:

  • cooking classes
  • networking events
  • tech events
  • real estate

These are some of the events I was able to find with those keywords.

Event organizers, I recommend following:

  • Dallasites101 – They are always in the know of what is happening in DFW and share new restaurants, activities, and events on their TikTok and Instagram. They also host bar crawls, volunteering, networking, and dating events, plus more so there is something for everyone
  • Fabletics Plano or Fabletics Southlake – If you live in one of the DFW suburbs and like or want to start going to fitness activities then you want to follow these pages because they have free fitness events on Saturday and Sunday a few times a month.
  • Crisp & Green – If you live in Dallas proper, then follow Crisp & Green for free fitness events that they host on Saturdays. They have two locations (Lakewood and University Park) so it can be more convenient based on where you live. Most times they will give you a free drink at the end.

Once you get to the event, what’s next? How do I make friends?

Let’s start with congratulations because it can be challenging to just show up to the event especially if you are going by yourself. If all you do is show up, you are doing great. However, if you want to take it a step further, try initiating a conversation with new people. The conversation could start with complimenting them or asking if they have been to this type of event before. I find it easiest to talk to someone that is by themselves because it is less intimidating.

Once you get the conversation flowing, you can say “would like to stay in contact, so we can connect at other similar events like this”. This has worked for me so many times and we actually stay in communication a lot of the time.

What are your thoughts and have you used Eventbrite before?
